How To Create Your Own Website with Little or No Budget

Starting your own little side hustle can be quite daunting. A lot of want-to-be entrepreneurs will give up before they even start assuming its going to cost them a fortune. Make no mistakes, it can cost you a fortune if you follow the mass advertising which is all around us that tries to sell us services that we must have. Take that with a pinch of salt.

Domain & Hosting

You can buy your own domain (your site name) for as little as 0.99c. Buying a domain is the easiest thing to do trust me. Thing to remember when picking your domain, is that it’s straight forward, it won’t be difficult for your potential clients to find you and that the username is also available across all social media channels. There’s nothing worse than having different social media names due to availability. Best place to purchase a domain is on a site called GoDaddy.

Hosting means, which provider will be your host for your website format, your blog posts etc. There are number of hosts out there such as Wix; WordPress or Blacknight (Irish Owned). I have previously worked with Wix and I also have a personal website fully hosted with WordPress, however for this business I haven’t made up my mind yet – which is why I am happy to avail of the free plan WordPress offers, which is why my Website Address has WordPress written in it. If you’re starting out and have no budget for hosting, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with using the free plan WordPress or Wix uses until you get things going. As you can see I can do pretty much anything on the site (including my own website theme) without having to spend a penny. The most basic WordPress Plan starts at €8.00 per month & you need to pay for the full year in advance.

Photography

No word of a lie, professional photography will cost you a fortune. You can have the best & most engaging content but lets face it nobody likes to read lines and lines of text with no photos. There are number of sites that will allow you to use their services for 7 Days for Free and then there’ll be an annual charge for using their stock imagery. Personally I use Pexels – it is completely free without limits. Of course certain more advanced searches will bring you paid photographs, however I find there are enough free photographs to chose from.

Social Media

Now that you have your site set up for free with free photographs its time to start using your Social Media channels, for free! In yesterdays Sunday Suggestions on our Instagram Page we talked about the importance of a search. Basically, you can have the best photos & content but if you don’t do your research with regards to who is your target audience and what hashtags will make others find your profile then there’s really no point going further. Facebook and Instagram will let you do paid posts, but it will be completely unnecessary to invest in Post Boosting if you have little or no audience. Both Facebook & Instagram offer free (to a limit) analytics insight into your audience. Utilize these tools for as long as you can. The same goes for Twitter, which also offers a free Tweet scheduling tool called TweetDeck.

Social Media Analytics

I’ve noticed I’ve gone a little of topic in the last paragraph, however I am planning on sharing a separate post on how to best utilize free online tools available out there. Hopefully you found this post useful and are ready to get your own website all ready & set for free. If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to contact us in comments below or via our Contact Page.

Until Next Time,
